We wrote this song as a declaration of interdependence. We humans need to stay engaged with ourselves, each other, and the world around us. And in order to make and maintain meaningful connections, we need to keep our eyes/ears/hearts and arms open. Finding a common language is tough when you keep your mind closed! Finding common ground with others is hard unless you’re willing to listen as well as speak. We cannot afford to isolate ourselves! And we do not live in a vacuum! This is not an individual struggle, it’s a collective one. We say “keep your tits to the sky” because we’re offering another perspective. We say “keep your tits to the sky” so that you can remember that gravity holds you, supports you, grounds you. “Tits to the sky” to feel your own soft weight melt into the cool, dank, soil, smelling the shadows and marveling at the mystery of it all above and around you. “Tits to the sky” because of the Milky Way. “Tits to the sky” because of mothers and care givers. “Tits to the sky” because balls to the wall is limiting and sounds painful. “Tits to the sky” because to be honest I’m tired of feeling shame for this body and I’m ready heal and embrace. “Tits to the sky” because I’m not hiding behind binding layers of polite submission anymore. “Tits to the sky” because I’m rising up, I’m focused on the light, I’m ready to transcend these systems of oppression, and I’m taking you with me.
